Event Description:
Interpersonal violence is a serious issue in Saskatchewan and one that all citizens in the province have a shared responsibility to address. While just one incident of interpersonal violence in the workplace is too many, the fact that Saskatchewan has the highest rates of police-reported domestic violence for both males and females in Canada is totally unacceptable and action needs to be taken.
Please join Jo-Anne Dusel and Crystal Giesbrecht from PATHS for a 1/2 day session of information and learning through the SCC's newly offered programing, Make It Our Business Training.
The Make It Our Business program provides information to engage employers and other workplace stakeholders to prevent workplace domestic violence, to support employees at risk of or currently experiencing domestic violence, and to improve workplace health and safety. The program outlines how employers, supervisors, managers, human resources professionals, security personnel, union representatives, and co-workers can recognize abusive relationships, respond to domestic violence, and refer victims and abusers to supports that offer help.
2-hour street parking is available around the SCC offices. There are also several Impark lots nearby.
"I found the information clear and easy to understand. It is important for workplaces to understand the dynamics of partner abuse/violence so safety plans can be put in place when there isn’t a crisis. When everyone understands the issue and are clear on the safety plan it creates a safe place for everyone involved. It is time to make it our business and educate ourselves on the issue because if not it just keeps on happening. The more we stand together the better chance we have to end this serious problem in our Province." Testimonial from previous attendee, Becky Wentzell with Regina Work Preparation Centre.
