SUMMARY:Energy On Tap - Deep Geological Storage of CO2
DESCRIPTION:Energy On Tap - Bioenergy and Biomass Fuel\n\nSpecial Guest: Norm Sacuta\, Director of Communications with PRTC\n\n\n\nJoin us as we chat with Norm Sacuta\, Director of Communications for the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC). PTRC has become a world leader in the deep geological storage of CO2 captured from large set point sources. Between 2000 and 2015 the company managed an $80 million research project examining the safety and validating the efficacy of CO2 being used for enhanced oil recovery at the Weyburn and Midale oil fields.\n\n\n\nSince 2015 it has been managing the injection\, measurement\, monitoring and verification of CO2 stored from the carbon capture facility at SaskPower's Boundary Dam coal-fired power station. That work has informed many other project worldwide and within Canada on how to effectively store CO2 in the deep subsurface (3.4 km down). This discussion will help people come to understand the important work being done.\n\n\n\nAbout Norm Sacuta\n\nNorm has been Director of Communications at the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC) in Regina\, Saskatchewan since 2008. Over the past years he has managed communications for the IEAGHG Weyburn-Midale CO2 Monitoring and Storage Project\, the Aquistore deep saline CO2 storage project\, and has worked with PTRC's Heavy Oil Research Network (HORNET). Norm has an MA in English from the University of Alberta in Edmonton and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. His is an accomplished writer\, and his fiction\, poetry and journalism have appeared in various newspapers and magazines. His poetry collection\, Garments of the Known\, has been published by Nightwood Editions.\n\n\n\nThe session will begin with a brief presentation followed by a Q&A portion. Join us in-person or virtually.
