Director’s Report to Local Chambers

Steve McLellan- SCC CEO and Randy Beattie, PFM Capital attended the annual meeting of the Chambers of Commerce Insurance Corporation of Canada (CCICC) board in Regina, Saskatchewan on June 15, representing the Saskatchewan region. The Board is comprised of two Directors from each region of the country, one a local volunteer involved in the Chamber movement and one a senior Chamber or Board of Trade staff member. This meeting was the 33rd annual meeting of the corporation.
The plan is administrated by Johnston Group Inc. and they, along with the Regional Marketing Directors presented the annual report to the Directors summarizing the financial results of the Plan as well as the marketing efforts for the current year. Some of the highlights from the report are listed below.

  • The Plan had a fantastic year of exceptional growth, adding 3,828 new firms representing $44.4M of new premium, which is an incredible 30% increase over the previous year and the most in the history of the Plan by over $10M of premium. Obviously the Plan continues to be of great importance for small firms across the country as 2,974 of the new firms (78%) have fewer than 10 employees.
  • This growth has been consistent across the country with this year, with Quebec leading the way, followed by Alberta, Manitoba and British Columbia.
  • The Board heard about a number of new Plan changes and enhancements that have been or are being added to the program over the past year and in the coming months. These include options such as a new Health Spending Account for firms, the ability to add older employees and a new Health Risk Assessment in the recently redesigned my-benefits® and my-benefits/health site for employees  In addition there are over 20 new options or enhancements to existing benefits that were introduced in the last year. All of these show how the Chambers Plan is constantly thinking about how to help small business.
  • The Directors heard about work that is being done in a number of Chambers across the country to strengthen the relationship between the Chamber and advisor and the very positive results that it is producing. The Board also discussed ways to broaden the awareness amongst Chambers about how these programs can enhance their membership acquisition and retention.
  • The board reviewed the financial reports for the year and the Plan had another very good year financially, which simply translates into more stable rates for the participating firms across the country.
  • The Board reviewed the annual report. It is available online at  https://www.chamberplan.ca/uploads/ck/files/2018AnnualReport_e_web.pdf or by requesting a copy from Johnston Group.
The CCICC meets next in Ottawa, Ontario in November 2018. If you have any questions about the program or issues for the board, please contact the SCC before then: info@saskchamber.com
